The Green Caboose serves as a symbol of the family's transient lifestyle in The Glass Castle. When Jeanette is "checked out" of the hospital "Rex Walls style" the Green Caboose is waiting the parking lot with Rose Mary behind the wheel. Every time they do "the skedaddle" they can only take what the Blue Goose can afford to carry, therefore dictating their property amount.
